Maori - T4W9 - 2019

LI: to learn how to say numbers and write them in maori .


This week we had our second to last session of maori . we learned how to say and write numbers in maoris other then 1 to 10 .


Kiwi Can

Today we had our last session of kiwi can , we got to play the games that we had choose in the previous sessions of kiwi can .We call it a fun day because we get to choose what we play . The first game we played was hot potato and basically how we played was we had got into a circle and had to pass the ball around and would sing the song "hot potato high , hot potato low , hot potato hot potato out you go " and whoever got "out you go " would be out until we were left with the last person . then we had played colour generator when we had partners and we got colors and each colour had a step we had to do . For an example if he said white we would have to pat our partners shoulders . After that we played musical cone where we had to lines and the first to grab the cone would win . A couple minutes later we played bitty bitty bop and we got into a circle and mr c manu would point at us and say bitty bitty bop but we had to say bop before him .  then we played simon says do this do that , basically it was a game of simon says .





LI: To work together and to play a game we really enjoyed in the previous weeks so that we could play it again .

Maori





this week for maths we had to tell the time in maori and also write down the months & days in maori . at first with miss weha odie she said in maori whats our name , our parents names & our grand parents names . for me this activaty was a bit easy because i know most my days in maori .

Just Frame It

this week for inquiry we had to make photo frames and they could be any theme like , christmas , summer , haloween ,  winter . summer and much more . the theme i did was christmas \ xmas . i drawed stockings and wrote christmas on it with a star . i chose to do christmas because i had a lot of ideas for christmas and am also good at drawing stockings . we either had to draw things on our frame or draw it on paper cut it out then glue it on our frame and also colour .

Basic Facts Boxes




This week I did Basic facts boxes This was made by my teacher Mr wong this was used for maths .This basically has addition and division questions and if you get it right then it will correct you and if you get it wrong then  under nether of the number will say wrong and thats my favourite thing about using Basic Facts Boxes . This was not hard but this was not easy for me .

SSR Selfie



Today I did SSR selfie using the slides that was made by our teachers Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie . If you do not no what me and my class do on this class well we make slides and we write about books that we have read before . This google slide has over 200 slides . This really helps me because I can look at other peoples SSR selfie and i could no more books . For my SSR selfie The book that I used was The BFG also known as The Big Friendly Giant . If you have not read this book before you can look at the pick which is here By The way This is my SSR Selfie . This week for reading we had to read roald dahl books and do an activaty either about the roald dahl book we have or we had to do an activaty about roald dahl , for an example some of these tasks we had to do was make a news paper and even find out research about Roald Dahl .

Kiwi Can

LI: To respect others for there differences .

This week for kiwi can we were learning about how everyone has their own beliefs , ideas & customs . one way to learn how to respect is hold your tongue . Which means to think about things before you say it .  . We learnt about other cultures religions and customs . Then we played an activity which was called spot the difference so how this was played was we had to find a partner , number ourselves from 1 to 2 and then number one would have to turn around and number 2 would have to change one thing  then we had to try figure out what they changed. After that we played our energiser which was master tag and mr c manu would choose a tagger and that tagger would have to tag people and whoever got tagged wasn't aloud to tag back and then they would have to tag someone else .

My Coffee Shop


LI: to supply and demand for a profit .
this week for inquiry we are learning about supply and demand . we had to play a coffee shop game were we could sell coffee and the people that brought the coffee would tell wheter if we needed more sugar or if the price was wrong or basically if anything was alright .

Maori


This week for maori we learned how to use a poi . We had to translate words that miss whea odie used when she teached us the basics on how to use a poi .We also had to translate a song but i never got up to that part .

Kiwi Can

This week for kiwi can we are still learning about respect but in our activtys & energisers we played were about being patient . We talked about how some people could be impatient and patient and we also talked about what will happen if we were being impatient to one of our siblings . At first we had to play this game and we had to put 2 fingers on someone elses hand and once Mr C Manu said the magic word which was "red" "car" or "shoe" and once he said it we had to try get your partners finger and move your own finger to stop your partner from getting it  . For me this game was hard because it was confuesing to keep up with moving my figer away and getting my partners finger . Then we played pass it on so basically we had to wait till our kiwi can teacher had tapped us and we would pass it on all the way to the person to the front and when the front person had it they had too run and get the cone .All these games \ energisers \ activatys were about being patient because we had to wait for someone to tap us and we also had to wait for a special word in our other game .

2019 Manaiaklani Film Festival We've Got This


I watched We've Got This from tamaki college and it was cool .

Today Panmure Bridge went to the manaiakalani's 12th film festival . My favourite school was tamaki college's film "we've got this " becuase 2 students went into the princables office and accidently broke something but luckily his & her whole class helped to make a new one .

Maori

This week for maori i had to write down the places where students in LS1 and where my mum dad , granddad & nana where from . I learned more bout where some students in my class are from .

LI: to ask students in LS1 where they come from and to also remember where me & my parents came from .

Kiwi Can

This week LS1 had another session of kiwi can. At first we played a game how we had to put one hand behind our back and then on the count of three we had to pull out random fingers and our partner would to the same and we had to add how many there were all together . Once we played that we talked about the languages we have when we write a letter to someone and we also talked about the types of letters you can write to someone . afterwords we played musical chairs although we didnt have chairs we used cones instead , so basically we all got lined up and we had to try get the cone once the music stoped but if someone moved the cone even to put it straight then there out .

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 had another session of kiwi can , we have been learning about respect . We played animal choir we all got given an animal and where ever Mr C Manu pointed we had to sing the part of our song it was all the same song but just different animals we had to say . We then played rocks papers scisors so basically how we played this is we had to find a partner and play paper scissors rock but if you got out then you would get on your knees and verse someone else thats on there knees . We played these energisers & activatys by using body language .

This week for reading we had to read roald dahl books and do an activaty either about the roald dahl book we have or we had to do an activaty about roald dahl , for an example some of these tasks we had to do was make a news paper and even find out research about Roald Dahl .

this morning LS1 had another session of maori . This week for maori we had to watch a video about macrons .The video talked about long voweled words and macrons are used to make a word sound longer for an example "Mā Te Wā" .

This week for cybersmart we are learning about legal & illegal images . We had to find ways om how to find legal and illegal images. We had to atribute an image that was legal to use (When the owner lets you use the image )

Origami Plane

This week for maths we are making origami planes .We had to find out the three main lengths about our planes which are the wing span , wing length & the wing area .For me this task was hard because im not good at making shapes and doing origami.
LI: to use statistical & scientific methods to study the effect of wing span and area on lift . 

Figurative & Literal Language



LI: To investigate figurative language

This week for writing we are learning about figurative language . We had to identify the different types of language's . At first we got into small groups and tried to tell what language it was for an example there would be a small text and we had to guess whether it was a personification , understatement , metaphor , simile or hyperbole . After we brain stormed we had to understand each of the languages .

Cyber smart


 This morning LS1 had another session of cyber smart and we learned how to attribute images .We also learned about legal images & illegal images and what they are legal images are images you are aloud to use and illegal images are images that the owner doesn't let you use .

Roald Dahl

This week for reading we have been reading roald dahl books the book i got given was "the twits " this book is about dirtiness and how mr & mrs twit are disgusting . basically what i had to do was make a poster about roald dahl .

Kiwi Sport

LI: To learn the basic grip on a tennis racket .

in pairs one person dropped a ball the other tried to catch it.This warmed up reactions .We learned the forehand and back hand technique . Forehand is one hand on the bottom of the racket , this is our dominate hand . Back Hand two hands on the racket dominate hand stays on the bottom and the other hand above the bottom .



Why Did We Play This ?
I think we played this to learn more skills about tennis .

What Did You Learn ?
I learned how to hold a racket while playing tennis .

Maori

This morning LS1 had another session of maori with miss whea odie which is our maori teacher . We had to watch a video and find out what the words they said in English . For me this task was easy because im maori and can understand but some of the words i had to use the maori dictionary .

Today LS1 group B had another session of kiwi can with miss mac . And we are learning about Respect .I think respect means treating people the way you want to be treated . Then we played a energiser which was called follow the leader so basically how this was played is we had to get in a circle and there would be one leader and the leader would go to miss mack and miss mack would tell us something our group would have to do and we had to do it .After that we talked about our strengths .Then we played our activaty and that was human knot so basically we would put our hand to someone thats not beside us and we would have too try and form a circle .

Today LS1 had another session of kiwi can . At first we played our energiser which was called vs and basically how we played is we had got asked what we thought was better spaghetti or baked beans and we had to have a good argument on what we thought was better . Then after that we played our activity which was called team challenges and basically we got into 2 groups one group did riddles and the other group did activity like how we had to get a partner and sit back to back with them and try stand up without touching the floor . I was in mr C manu's group and we had to do the challenge wen we had to sit back to back and try stand up we also played another activaty how we got in a circle and we had to do the same thing.


Why Did We Play These Games :
I Think We Played These Games To Learn More About Respect .

What Did You Learn ?
I learned how to stand up with someone that was back to back with me .

Research

LI: to research 
This week for maths we had to research different words and find the definitions of them . We also had to write down the function ( what they do ) For an example if the word was Lift we would have to write the definition which is  raise to a higher position or leve and the function would be a level going higher . We did this research because we had to guess what we were going to be learning about . We are learning about how to make origami air planes .

What Did You Learn ? 
I learned more about planes and the parts in a plane .

Rap Lyric & Vocab Builder




L.I - To build vocabulary and knowledge

This week for Reading we were learning about how to build our vocabulary and our knowledge.IN our reading groups we had to make slides of our vocab builder and a rap lyric or poetic verse . For our rap and poetry you have to read the text and pick if it is a rap or a poem.




Recount

LI: to revise the structure of a recount reaffirm the marking criteria.
 For writing we had to make an imaginative recount using TREE which is the structure of a recount and it means Title , Reveal , Events & Ending . We had 45 minutes to write our recount . We had to try put in as many ideas as we could . 

Maths Recap .

LI: to recall core skills and knowledge for addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, and place value
We recapped what we learnt in Term 3. We recapped our learning by doing a quiz.The quiz was we had to answer different things using subtracting addition grouping and times . after we solve them we had to tell how we got that answer some people used written algorithm & times . we did the recap by playing a game called categories we played this game by using the 7 maths skills which are subtraction , addition ,  times , grouping multiplication , division and area .

I learned how to solve different types of equations .

this week for inquiry LS1 had to make a google sideshow about buisness and enterprise . we had to find different buisnesses around our local area and find out what they sell and what price they are . this was a group activity . And we had to find a total of 50 or 100 business's .

Kiwi Can

This morning LS1 had the first session of kiwi can for term 4 . We had 2 new teachers and there names were mr c manu & mr latu we learned about respect and how to respect yourself .at first we played a energiser called tooty fruity and if mr C manu said apple we would have to jump forwards if he said orange we would have to jump backwards and if he said banana we would have to jump the opposite way . For me this energiser was hard because we had to keep up with what he was saying .

This morning LS1 had our first session of maori with miss whea odie . at first we had to get into groups of 7 because miss whea odie was gonna teach each group through out the week . At first my group had to find out the definitions of those words on my google document . For the first task (Whakapakehatia) we had to watch a video called nui meets sione . then miss whea odie our maori teacher went through all the words and tested us .

Rube Goldberg Simple Machine


LI: To make a working Rube Goldberg machine with the 6 simple machines.

There are 6 simple machines. They are: Pulley, Screw, Inclined Plane, Wedge, Wheel and Axle and a Lever. We needed to use these 6 simple machines to create our own Rube Goldberg machines to complete one of three scenarios. The three scenarios we had to choose from I were: Tipping dice out of a cup, putting a ball into a cup and turning on a netbook. We needed to try to make a successful working Rube Goldberg machine using as many of the simple machines as we could. Rube Goldberg created machines to complete tasks in simple ways. The task we had to complete was trying to turn on a chromebook and the materials we used were four wooden shapes, one meter ruler,toy car,  yoyo, container, string, and a cup..the simple machines we used were the pulley, lever, inclined plane, and a wheel and axle.   


Reflection 
Some of the challenges we faced were trying corporate as a group and share ideas because everyone had different ideas and it was hard to keep up with all the different ideas.  Why do you think this failed ? I think our simple machine failed because we didn't have put everything in the right place. Something we could change or did differently to make it work was to use the right materials.

Rugby Events

Learning Intention:
To apply Inquiry , literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the rugby world cup .

This week for reading , maths & writing we are learning about the rugby world cup . We had different tasks \ activates we had to finish they were all linking to maths reading and writing . For this we had to supply three famous rugby events that have happened in the past .

Rugby World Cup Challenge

LI:To learn about the rugby world cup time .
This activaty was a group activaty and the first activaty me and my group did was the world time.
For this activity we had to figure out the time it would be when the RWC ends in different countries around the world, we had to compare the times to japans time. The countries times that we had to figure out were New Zealand, USA, Canada, Japan, Fiji, Australia, France and South Africa. We had to use our litracy and numeracy skills for this activity .

Kiwi Can

LI : To focus more ( Not get distracted )

We learned how to not get distracted . Distracted means to fall out of focus . many things can distract us like people talking or physically annoying each other . To learn about distraction we played a game called Distraction Circle .  So basically how we played this game is we got put into groups of five and there was one person in the middle and there was 4 people around that person those 4 people around the person in the middle had to distract the person in the middle . Some of us distracted the person in the middle by singing and drawing numbers on someones back . The hardest thing about this is keeping up with the person drawing numbers on my back because i had to copy someones dance moves .

Ihumātao



This week for reading we are carrying on with ihumatao, we had to do the 23rd slide . Ihumatao is important to New Zealand because that is Maoris land and they have sacrificed a lot for ihumatao and now that land is getting taken off them .

Proportion Problems


 This week for maths we are learning about proportions . This presentation is a work in progress  , it will be finished by the 26th of august .So far we have been learning about what proportions are proportions are a number or a part related to a whole . This is suppost to be a game but me and my group is not finished .

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 had another  session of kiwi can with miss mac and miss paige at first we talked about what we learnt in our other session last week which was self control and self discipline , I think they both mean coping with challenges \ games \ things . After that we played our energiser rats & rabbits basically how this game was played was we had to find a partner that was a rat\rabbit and if miss Paige had said rat then the rabbit would have to try get the cone before the rat did . I felt angry playing this game because my partner got the cone before me .

Then we got into our game which was called 4 challenges .
the first challenge was to write the alphabet backwards . For me this was hard because me and my group didn't know the alphabet backwards .
The second challenge was when we had to do 5 push ups 5 squats 5 bur pees and 5 sit ups , this was confusing for me because i didn't no what exercise my group was doing .
The third challenge was when we had to put Maori colours by the English words . This was easy for me because I remembered the Maori colour song .  Then the fourth challenge we had to remake the actions for our kiwi can catch phrase which is "Kiwi Can Says, Control Yourself Don't Shout Kiwi Can Over And Out " .

This week for cyber smart LS1 had to fix these posters .These posters are all linking to the 4  print design rules which are Composition , Colour , Layout & Text . All these posters where about Naruto , we had to fix these posters so for an example one poster would need text fixing colour fixing maybe layout fixing and we would have to fix it .

Kiwi Can

LI; to learn resilience.

For kiwi can our theme was resilience and our topic was self control and self  discipline and our activity was roll play and our enagizer was rabbit rat how we played rabbit rats is that we had to get in partner and we had to get in lins one line in the yellow cone and the re cone what we did with the cone our kiwi can leader gave as cones and we had to put the cone n the middle of as and our teacher said if he says toes we have to get the cones he said head shoulder knees and head toes then we have to get the cones and i one and i was in the finals i had to vs this girl and her name was Te raumati and she one.How  we played roll play we had to get in groups and our kiwi can leader gave as a card and we had to act it out but my group had to act like when a teacher tells someone to in charge as but we were nosie and loud

Print Design Activaty



This week for cybersmart we had to do a print design activity. So basically we had a bunch of wrong and right slides and we had to put underneath either Compisition , Layout , Colour or Text . We also had totake the emoji away if you would like to find out more read the slides .

Rube Goldbreg


This week for inquiry we had to find facts and information about rube Goldberg  .We had to find this information for searching for facts and finding about what happens in his past . We had to also attribute images , we did this by licencing it and giving links to where we found the image . For this activaty we had to be in a group of six , the students in my group are Alayah , Juel , Aneglica, Hosea , Jay lee And Me .

LI\Learning Intention :
To learn about emotions

Some emotions i learned were happiness , misery and also rage . Happiness can affect others by making them laugh . We also had energisers that we had to express our emotions in . The energiser was about stage fronting at first we got into groups and miss Paige gave us a card and on that card we had to act , and we had to show the emotions or tell the emotions we were feeling .
